Celebrity Chef Brian Malarkey
From Bravo's Top Chef
Introducing Searsucker, San Diego’s most anticipated restaurant opening from television's award winning celebrity chef Brian Malarkey, host of TLC’s Mega Bites and past Bravo Top Chef finalist, and James Brennan, majority partner of Stingaree nightclub and initial developer of many of San Diego’s hottest nightclubs and lounges.
Located in the heart the Gaslamp Quarter, the San Diego fine dining and culture district, Searsucker serves New American Classic cuisine, emphasizing approachable and unpretentious dishes paired with local craft beer, handcrafted cocktails and a selection of one-of-a-kind wines from all over the world.
Brian Malarkey Tops the Town
The SEA in Searsucker pays homage to the menu's love of the ocean and embodies Malarkey’s personality: gregarious, mischievous, fun-loving and authentic. Divided into categories like ‘Bites,’ ‘Smalls,’ ‘Greens,’ ‘Ocean,’ ‘Ranch’ and ‘Farm,’ the menu is both serious and fun. It includes everything from Lost Abbey Shortribs to Jalapeno-chorizo Corn Off the Cob. Specialties include Cheeks Goat Cheese Dumplings and Ribeye Tomahawk with Cognac and Horseradish as well as expertly prepared seafood specialties like local Baja Scallops served with Figs and Alaskan Halibut with Bacon Corn Broth.
Searsucker has teamed up with nationally acclaimed designer Thomas Schoos whose past projects include Koi Restaurant, O-Bar, Huntley Hotel, and Tao, the number one revenue generating restaurant in the country. Schoos has taken the 7,000 square foot
space and created a restaurant that is laid-back, comfortable and warm – yet classic. The design is not unlike the seersucker, a paradox in itself, a smooth and rough material, originally worn by the poor, then adopted by the rich and now accessible to all.
Architectural salvage, distressed furniture and exposed ceiling beams create an open warehouse feeling. The design features masculine elements stippled with feminine details. Guests are greeted by the bustling rectangular bar in the lounge area, seating 60 and outfitted with high tables, mismatched chairs and large couches. The dining room, seating 140, surrounds the exhibition kitchen with bar-style seating where Brian Malarkey gives cooking demos and entertains the crowd. The comfortable setting and gourmet cuisine make Searsucker a truly San Diego restaurant, a place where any group can have a wonderful time in the city.
